This week, our babies each measure over 16 inches long. They weigh about 4 pounds each (try carrying four navel oranges) and are heading into a growth spurt. And from this week, until 2 weeks before birth, each will gain about a half pound every week. They can turn their heads from side to side, and their arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath their skin. The fetal ear is almost completely developed both inside and out. Your baby can hear your voice and other familiar sounds that she will recognize after birth. The baby's fingernails have grown to the end of her fingers and she may scratch herself while she is in the womb. Baby is receiving all the nutrients through the placenta and the placental blood flow enables the baby to make urine. The baby urinates about half a liter of urine every day and the baby also swallows some of the amniotic fluid which is replaced a few times daily.
