June 22, 2011

This evening I was feeling pretty awful when I got home from work and symptoms didn't seem to get any better. I was having some cramps, nausea and light-headedness. Around 8;30 I drove my self to the ER. The doctor ran blood work to show my white blood cell count a little high (which he said can certainly happen during pregnancy because the body considers the baby a foreign body). They did an ultrasound that shows that my placenta is slightly lower than he would expect for this point in pregnancy and that I am having some Braxton-hicks contractions (no worries, these are apparently normal throughout some pregnancies). The doctor also thought that the pain might be apendicitis and states that he felt comfortable sending me home to "wait it out" because the pain was not constant and I was not running a fever. Everything seems to be ok and he asked me to follow up with my OB-GYN and to come back if anything got worse.
