Week 15

The babies now measure about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weigh in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple) each. The're busy moving amniotic fluid through the nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in the lungs begin to develop. The legs are growing longer than the arms now, and they can move all of their joints and limbs. Although eyelids are still fused shut, they can sense light! If you shine a flashlight at my tummy, for instance, they're likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for the baby to taste at this point, but they are forming taste buds. The baby's skin is very thin, and blood vessels can be seen underneath. The heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood per day!
