Each baby measures up to about 4 1/2 inches or the size of an avocado now, and weighs about 3 1/2 ounces. Each fetus has the appearance of a very little baby and their movements are becoming more coordinated. Most of the development is now complete; however, the babies still need to grow and the systems will still mature. The lungs and brain will continue to develop throughout the pregnancy. Both babies are responsible for producing their own amniotic fluid now, whereas the placenta was doing it before. Researchers believe that the babies have knowledge of each other at this point. The babies fingerprints are formed by now as well. The babies can hold his or her head erect, and the development of facial muscles allows for a variety of expressions, such as squinting and frowning. Tiny bones in the fetus's ears are in place this week, making it likely that the babies can now hear our voices when speaking (or singing in the shower). In fact, studies have found that babies who are sung to while they're in the womb recognize the same tune when it's sung to them after they are born!
